I Don’t Have Time

Life is busy. It seems to me to be getting busier all the time. Whether you work full time, overtime, are a stay at home mom, or even retired we all seem to be running around always wishing there were more hours in the day. Many people say they are too busy to get to the gym or to exercise. Many people say they can’t afford a gym membership. A few years ago, I fit into both of those groups.

Having studied health fitness in college, I had all the head knowledge of what I needed to do, but I didn’t do it. I ended up 70 pounds overweight, on daily medication, and hardly able to get around and do what I needed to do. If you don’t find the time and money to exercise, sooner or later, you will have to find time and money for illness. Thankfully, one day I woke up. I participated in a three month challenge that changed my thinking about food. That started to change my health. My acne that I’d had for 20 years finally cleared up. My daily headaches were almost nonexistent. My joint pain started to go away. I felt amazing.

I had always tried to exercise. I liked walking, swimming, I would get on the elliptical machine every once in a while. I loved aerobic classes, mostly because I’ve always loved dancing. About nine or ten years ago, we had a really great gym that we went to. I was getting some pretty ok results. I would have gotten better results had I changed my diet at that time. When we moved here, there really wasn’t a gym anywhere close to the quality of that one. We tried the closest option, but they did not offer anything that got us any results.

Then, I heard about Rick Copley and his functional fitness classes. He offered a special homeschool class for 3 months. I decided to give it a try for the kids. In those three months, I accomplished more than any time ever in my life. I was stronger and more fit than when I was in college taking all my health fitness related classes. That is when I decided I couldn’t afford to not continue. Being a one income family, it was a sacrifice to pay that fee every month. I also had to prioritize my time in order to fit it in. I’m so glad I did. About a month later, I ran a whole mile for the first time ever in my life. At almost 40, I am healthier, stronger, and in better shape than at any point ever in my life.

I am excited to be able to share that with others. I know how hard it is to fit into your schedule. I know all about not having the money.  One hour is about 4% of your day. Twenty-four hours of sickness takes up 100% of your day. One hour, four days a week is only 2% of your week. Do you have time to spend a week in the hospital? Do you have $500/month for heart medications that your insurance won’t cover? No, I didn’t make up that number. I know someone personally who has to pay that and they have pretty decent insurance coverage by today’s standards. That may sound harsh, but that’s the reality. Our bodies are not designed to be sedentary, but our world has become very sedentary. Division of labor has given us greater leisure lives. That’s a good thing, but we need to be more purposeful in making sure our bodies stay active. With more access to easy foods, we need to be more purposeful in making sure we eat good foods that nourish our bodies.

If you’re ready to make fitness a priority, but don’t know where to start, we can help. Less than one hour, three or four days a week is all it takes to change your life for the better. Check out our class schedule and come try a class: CLICK TO SEE OUR FULL SCHEDULE.
