You have heard the term....
We have all heard it a million times. You know, your kids ask, "Can we stay up and extra 10 minutes..." and an hour later they are still in front of the TV.
My son always wanted to sleep a few more minute. 30 minutes later he's still snoozing.
You know what I am talking about when it come to the snooze button....
Today's short post is really about MINDSET. It's about YOUR mindset. It's about the way that you perceive your health and vitality.
Let me explain how giving yourself an inch can end up with you taking a mile....
You workout every day without fail. Maybe you take Sundays off but most days you hit the gym hard and are seeing results. Then one day you are working late and you say to yourself, "This project is very important and I've been doing well at the gym so today I am going to skip the gym..."
Seems like a normal thought process, right?
Problem.
The next time you are faced with that decision it's no longer a decision. You have now made it OK to skip the gym because of an importation work project. 5 days of working out is ideal but 4 is close, right? That's good enough....
3 is close to 4.....2 is close to 3....
Oops I missed a week. "I'll get back to the gym after...."
6 months later you haven't been to the gym once.
This is very common. An inch (one missed workout) can turn into a mile (6 months missed) at the drop of a hat.
I've been in fitness for 16 years. I see it ALL THE TIME. Do you know how many times I have heart, "Sorry I missed the last couple of weeks, I'll be back om Monday...." and I don't see him or her for 6 months of 6 years? More that I care to admit to!
Listen. If your kid has a field trip that you are chaperoning you need to miss a day at the gym then skip the darn gym. I'm not talking about that. What I'm talking about the the inches that can turn into miles. Don't skip the gym to watch TV or work late or go our with the guys.
Same goes for the way that you eat. If you hit the drive-thru one day then you are more likely to hit it again. Just say no.
Getting out of shape doesn't happen over night. It's not one decision that does it. It's the inches that lead to the miles. Its the little things that, over time, add up to big things.
Stop giving up your inches. Fight for your health and for your body each and every day. Never give up. You can do it. I have faith in you.
